One of the tried and true website strategies is using opt-in email campaigns to stir up interest and future sales. Recently, I was asked to put up an email capture page, what are known as 'squeeze' pages because they offer something of great value to the visitor in return for entering their email in return for what's promised. That could be samples, information, or tips on penny stocks. What this was for was a newsletter giving information about growth companies in penny stocks. Doing a squeeze page for something like this really turned out to be a multi-page website because of disclaimers, contact forms, privacy policies, all of which do not fit on a squeeze page. The get rich quick mentality, painting that picture to add someone to an email list, has to have a very extensive disclosure because the people running their newsletters are not licensed, but are only gathering information from the companies and not providing financial advice. There is a huge difference in the cost of time to build a website than there is a 'squeeze' page. This turned out to be the one project that I initially accepted, but had to back out, once it was understood that a full website was necessary to cover the goal of collecting emails for a 'free' newsletter. How many people fall for the dream of quick riches and never read the disclosures? I would say most do not read it. So if it is not your product you are building a site for, be sure you are comfortable with the service or product being offered.
