Yahoo! and Twitter Strike Formal Partnership
Like Google and Bing, Yahoo! has integrated Twitter into their search results. But what's exciting is if you choose, you'll be able to access your Twitter feed from Yahoo! "The information in one single tweet can travel light-years farther with this Yahoo! integration," said Twitter co-founder, Biz Stone. "Tweets in more places brings relevance where and when you need it most." The timeframe for this to be implemented is not known yet, but can't be far off from the newly approved Bing partnership (source- posted by Nathania Johnson on Search Engine Watch, February 24th, 2010).
For an online business, it is crucial to integrate social media into their web 2.0 marketing strategy. It does look like Yahoo! is remaking itself, shedding off Hot Jobs to Monster.com and turning over the search engine work to Bing. Some may think it's a hollowing out of the company after failing to come to the table with Google. They could be right. I'm thinking they're repositioning for lower overhead and concentrating on being a major portal, leveraging the resources of other companies along with their own tools. When a user logs in, the landing page asks, what are you doing? Certainly an attempt to get social networking going among mail users. The Twitter deal will help Yahoo! immensely and Twitter? It keeps going and going......
