Facebook continues to change how fanpages are built, and that has an effect on social media marketing strategies. There are more changes coming that promise to make it easier for web developers and businesses who have graphics and html expertise. Third party software that develops applications for fanpages are doing their best to keep their apps working while Facebook changes the rules.
A great app provider is Involver, they provide a suite of applications for Pages, such as polls and coupons, and tracking and publishing software that allows clients to share status updates, tweets on Twitter and other communications.
While most companies begin by focusing on building fans, they move to engaging the fans in different ways. Some monetize their fanpages, others encourage fans to visit their main site or blog. Some use polls and coupons to build on their email list in order to stay in front of their fans and convert fans into new and repeat customers. We recently ran a promotion for new business fanpages by offering three types of coupons in reward for three different actions on writing on the company wall (www.facebook.com/mygirlfriendhouse). This kept new fans on the facebook page and got them into participating. Over 600 new fans joined in the first day. Net More Now uses an all-inclusive website strategies program that integrates social media and search optimization into a network of web properties.
